What an incredible weekend for the St. Mary Chess Club! St. Mary Catholic Community School students competed at the state team tournament and delivered a masterclass in strategy, focus, and sportsmanship. Facing the toughest competition in the state, the Wildcats proved they are a force to be reckoned with.
St. Mary was well represented with five teams competing across three different divisions. The energy in the tournament hall was electric, and St. Mary players stayed calm under the pressure of the clock.
A massive congratulations goes out to one of the St. Mary 8th Grade and Under teams for an outstanding performance. After several grueling rounds of play, the team secured an impressive 4th place finish in the state.
This outstanding team included:
• Andrew Myers (8th Grade)
• Gabe Rosado (8th Grade)
• Joey Shea (7th Grade)
• Lukas Vicari (5th Grade)
While the 4th place trophy is a highlight, St. Mary is equally proud of every Wildcat who competed in the tournament. Whether playing on the top board or battling through a tough endgame, each student’s dedication to the game and to their teammates was evident in every move.
Congratulations to all the students who competed and represented St. Mary with such class and sportsmanship.
