Science Olympiad competitions can be thought of as academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events throughout the course of a competition day. These competitions consist of a variety of sciences including genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, geology, and mechanical engineering. By combining events from all scientific disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Through Science Olympiad, students, teachers, parents, principals and business leaders bond together and work toward a shared goal.

St. Mary’s Science Olympiad team was started during the 2008-2009 school year and has grown rapidly since its inception. During the 2009-2010 school year, the team reached numerous goals, making it past the regional level and earning a spot at the state competition at Indiana University in Bloomington.
