Kindness Abounds in St. Mary School's 1st Grade Classroom
First grade students at St. Mary Catholic Community School were spreading kindness recently for World Kindness Day. The students discussed the ways that they show kindness everyday. Classmates did a collaborative group activity where they shared kind words about each other, and everyone went home with 25 compliments about themselves from their classmates. St. Mary's Students Honor Veterans with Program
St. Mary Catholic Community School held its annual Veterans Day Program this Friday. Local veterans were welcomed to the school with thank-you cards made by the students before being led by a procession of Girl and Boy Scouts into the gym, where they were met with a roaring standing ovation. St. Mary's Grandparents and Special Guests Enjoy Program
Students and staff at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point recently put on their annual Grandparents and Special Persons Day Program. Grandparents, special family members, and friends were treated to coffee and donuts, a trip to the classrooms, and concluded with a music program in the school’s gym. Students in grades K-8 at St. Mary Catholic Community School celebrated Día de los Muertos this week with a special cultural experience featuring an Elote food truck that visited the school during lunchtime. St. Mary School’s 2 nd grade held its second annual celebration of Día de los Muertos ! The students learned about the rich traditions and cultural significance of this special holiday, which is an important celebration in Spanish-speaking cultures such as Mexico . St. Mary's Environmental Club Enjoys Fall Afternoon at Cowles Bog
Over 30 members of St. Mary Catholic Community School’s Environmental Club enjoyed a fun afternoon hike at Cowles Bog, part of the Indiana Dunes National Park. The group completed the 4.7-mile trail, which featured rugged terrain and stretches of loose sand. Along the way, students observed a variety of trees and animals in the forest on a beautiful fall day. A group at the front of the pack was thrilled to spot several snakes, including a beautiful Eastern hog-nosed snake.

St. Mary Catholic Community School recently hosted a CPR/AED and choking response class for all seventh-grade students. St. Mary parent and firefighter/paramedic Mr. Jake Gettler assisted school nurse Mrs. Patti Miskus with organizing and instructing the class. Students in Mrs. Shea’s and Miss Perry’s 8th grade religion classes recently completed a creative and faith-filled project titled “Journey to Sainthood.” The lesson invited students to imagine what their lives might look like if they were to become saints. St. Mary's Famous Spaghetti Supper & Veterans Day Program
St. Mary Catholic Community School will host its 64 th annual Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, November 12th. The meal includes a generous serving of spaghetti, Caesar salad, Italian bread, dessert and coffee or milk. Ticket prices are $6 for senior citizens and veterans, $10 for adults age 15-59 and $6 for children 3-14; children 2 and younger eat free.
