St. Mary’s Fourth Graders Enjoy a Wild Adventure at the Kankakee River Marsh!
What a fun-filled day for St. Mary’s fourth graders at the Kankakee River Marsh! Forty-four students recently ventured just twenty minutes south to Grand Kankakee Marsh County Park to participate in the annual Kankakee River Days program.
The students put their muscles to the test as they paddled canoes through the marsh and learned about bird migration patterns through a hands-on activity. They also examined insects found in the marsh, conducted their own watershed experiments, and even got to pet a black bear! Well, sort of…it was actually a black bear pelt from a hunting expert’s collection of animal skins! Fourth grader Emalynn Duncan even had the opportunity to drape herself in a real fur stole!
