St. Mary's Students Treated to Elote as Part of Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Students in grades K-8 at St. Mary Catholic Community School celebrated Día de los Muertos this week with a special cultural experience featuring an Elote food truck that visited the school during lunchtime. The event, coordinated by Principal Tom Ruiz and School Counselor Alex Wooden, gave students the opportunity to enjoy traditional Mexican street food.  Día de los Muertos, a holiday that honors and celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away.

Many students enjoyed trying elote—roasted corn topped with seasonings, cheese, butter, mayo, and chile—while learning how families across Mexico and Latin America come together to remember their ancestors during this time.

“I saw a lot of smiling faces and was surprised to see how many students asked for the spicy chile seasoning and enjoyed it,” said principal Ruiz.
