St. Mary Crown Point Finishing Strong in Academic Competition

St. Mary Catholic Community School’s Academic Team recently competed in the Junior Academic Super Bowl Area Competition at Pierce Middle School.  This year’s theme was The End of the Second Millennium:  The 1980s and 1990s, and the students studied the presidencies, natural disasters, and scientific advancements of the time period.


First year competitor Dani Fleming said, “it was a great learning experience,” and eighth grader Kailana Urbanek said, “The experience was really fun, and I felt like I learned a lot about the 1980s and 1990s!” The English, math, science, social studies, and interdisciplinary teams took first place in their class at the regional level. The science team placed #4 in the entire state of Indiana!

All of the students studied and prepared well for the competition, and it was great to see their hard work pay off.  The team was coached by Theresa McLoughlin.
