Wildcats young and old came out to see St. Mary’s first ever “April Showers” three-on-three basketball tournament on Tuesday April 26. Normally held in March and called "March Madness," students were happy to bring back this tradition which was started over a decade ago.
Fifth through eighth grade students built and ran their own teams. “The kids came out for a great night of friendly competition,” said co-organizer, Mrs. Melanie Light. Eighth grader Addison Luttrell was quoted saying “It was so much fun!” The games were reffed by the players themselves, but in keeping with tradition, a good number of St. Mary’s graduates came out to help keep time, settle disputes, and facilitate the games. The five high school seniors, Nikki Gerodemos, Ava Go, JJ Mullally, Marianna Ruiz, and Mathew Zdanowicz, were happy to see the last competition on the school's old gym floor. Plans are in the works for a new wood floor to be installed as well as new bleachers. Parents also got into the act with a half court shot contest. A good time was had by all!
