St. Mary's School Nurse Patti Miskus Wins Governor's Award

Saint Mary Catholic Community School’s nurse Patti Miskus was awarded the Governor’s Everyday Safety Hero on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. The annual Everyday Safety Hero awards, part of the annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards, provides recognition to individuals nominated by their respective companies, organizations, agencies, employers, or coworkers. Hoosiers receiving this award have promoted workplace health and safety for the good of those with whom they work. Only four awards of this kind were given throughout the entire state of Indiana.

With safety in mind, the award ceremony took place remotely this year. Nurse Miskus, who has served as St. Mary’s school nurse since 2011, has worked tirelessly to keep the students and staff at St. Mary Catholic Community School safe during these difficult times. The school has been open every day since August 13th and Nurse Miskus played a key role on the re-entry team. The protocols Nurse Miskus implemented are still being followed every day at St. Mary’s.

“St. Mary’s School started in 1872. Years from now when people look back at the history of our school, I hope they realize what a heroic effort was made by Nurse Miskus to keeps students and staff safe during our most challenging time,” said principal, Tom Ruiz
