St. Mary Students Make Valentines for Veterans

In a heartwarming collaboration, students from St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point teamed up with the Valparaiso Elks Lodge #500. Junior high students created handmade Valentine's Day cards for veterans residing at the Indiana Veterans' Home.

In early February, with Valentine's Day approaching, the students eagerly joined forces with the Valparaiso Elks to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans. The students poured their creativity and gratitude into crafting personalized cards adorned with heartfelt messages and vibrant designs.

The initiative not only aims to spread love and cheer but also honors the dedication and bravery of our nation's veterans. The Elks will delivered the students’ handcrafted tokens of appreciation to the Indiana Veterans' Home, where they will serve as reminders of the community's unwavering support and gratitude for the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Valparaiso Elks in this meaningful endeavor," said junior high math teacher Theresa McLoughlin at St. Mary School. "It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to express their gratitude for the veterans who have served our country selflessly."

Elks member and former St. Mary Catholic Community School teacher Steve Davis, who started this collaboration in 2017, told the students that the veterans “enjoy your creative reminders that they are in our hearts for their service.”

The collaboration between the students and the Valparaiso Elks embodies the spirit of unity within the community, and emphasizes the importance of honoring and supporting those who have served our nation.
