St. Mary’s Students Receive a Private Tour of Notre Dame Campus

It was an exciting morning for the 7th grade Wildcats as they boarded the bus and headed to South Bend for a visit to The University of Notre Dame.  The students received a very special tour. Upon arrival they were greeted by Dr. James Alleman, retired Director, Master of Engineering for Notre Dame and proud grandfather of SMS 7th grader Lily Huffman. Dr. Alleman provided the students with an educational and historical tour including the Notre Dame Engineering Lab, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, as well as other historical sites such as the grotto and the Log Chapel which was originally built in 1831. It was a beautiful day on campus as the Wildcats continued the day with a visit to the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art. Here they received a hands-on tour, which focused on the math and science aspects of art. This allowed SMS students to engage in different activities as well as view art from a different perspective. “The Wildcats had an amazing time while visiting Notre Dame and would like to thank Dr. Alleman and his docents for an unforgettable day,” said trip coordinator, Mrs. Amy Cox.
