St. Mary Students Take Action for a Cleaner Community

On October 1, members of St. Mary Catholic Community School’s Environmental Club rolled up their sleeves and took to the streets for a neighborhood cleanup—showcasing the school’s commitment to community service and environmental stewardship.

More than 20 students, accompanied by faculty sponsors, spent the afternoon picking up litter and beautifying the areas surrounding the school. Equipped with gloves, trash bags, and plenty of school spirit, the group focused on sidewalks, businesses, and yards on Joliet Street (Highway 231).

“We always encourage our students to live out their faith through service,” said teacher Mrs. Hise. “This cleanup was a wonderful way to show our care for both the community and the environment. It was inspiring to see so many students eager to help.”

The cleanup effort is part of St. Mary’s ongoing mission to instill values of responsibility, compassion, and civic engagement in its students. Teachers also used the opportunity to discuss the impact of pollution and the importance of caring for God’s creation.
