St. Mary's Students Enjoy Virtual Fieldtrip to See Penguins and Interact with the Scientists who Car

The 7th graders at St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point participated in a virtual field trip through the Shedd Aquarium (Chicago, IL). The students had the opportunity to “meet up” with penguins behind the scenes in their habitat and learn about their nutrition, socialization and general care. During the experience the students interacted with an on-site penguin keeper at the museum, asking and answering questions. The 7th graders had just completed a unit over birds, so this field trip made the perfect capstone experience. “I found it very interesting how the scientists take care of the penguins at the aquarium,” said Jared Martinez. “It was very fun to see the penguins even though I couldn’t be there in person. I learned that penguins eat a lot of fish throughout the day!” Danny Shea added...




St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point opened in 1872.
